Pharmacological action

Pharmacodynamics

The effect of dexamethasone is similar with hydrocortisone,but the effect of dexamethasone is stronger, effect initiating time long, side effect is smaller.The anti-inflammatory action and glyconeogenesis is 25 times of the hydrocortisone,and the water-sodium retention and excrete potassium is less than the hydrocortisone.It has stronger effect on the hypophysis-adrenal cortex axis.This product besides above functions,also can be used on the induced labor of dam childbirth,but it can make the placental retention rates increase, lactation delay,the uterus return to normal late.

The dogs after intramuscular injection, the systemic effects is rapid,half hour the blood drug concentration peak,half-life period is about 48 hours, excreted in urine, faeces.

Drug interactions

1.The microsomal drug metabolizing enzyme inducers such as phenobarbitone can promote the metabolism of this kind medicine,reduce the pesticide effect.

2.Can make the elimination of salicylate quickly, effectiveness less,use together may cause the peptic ulcer.

3.Can reduce the effect of the anticoagulant which taken orally,use together should be appropriately increased the dosage of the anticoagulant.

4.The thiazide diuretics can promote potassium excretion,when use together should potassium supplements.

Indications:

Used to treat serious infectious disease,such as the adjuvant therapy of blood poisoning, toxic pneumonia, toxic bacillary dysentery, postpartum uterus acute inflammation; Anaphylactic disease,such as the treatment of the anaphylactic rhinitis,urticaria, allergic airway inflammation, laminitis,allergic eczema and son on; shock treatment from various cause; Cattle ketonemia and Pregnancy Toxemia of Sheep;Induce the synchronized farrowing of cattle and sheep.

Usage and Dosage:

Intramuscular injection, intravenous injection:For one day,horse 2.5-5ml;cattle 5-20ml;sheep,pig 4-12ml;dog,cat 0.125-1ml. Joint capsule injection:Horse,cattle 2-10ml.

Adverse drug reaction:

1.It has strong effect of water-sodium retention and excrete potassium.

2.It has strong immunosuppression effect.

3.At the late stages of pregnancy,high dosage use may cause abortion.

4.Can cause dog torpescence,coat dry, wheezing, vomiting,diarrhea, hepatic drug metabolism enzymes increased, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal ulcer, lipemia, aggravate diabetes, muscle atrophy, behavior change(depressed, lethargy, aggressive),may need termination of dose.

5.Cat eat and drink too much, dieresis,gain weight, diarrhea or depression occasionally.High dosage for a long term may cause cushing's syndrome.
